Week 4...Done!
Week 5, here we come! Tomorrow, we will start week 5 and I think this is going to be the week to get me. 20 minute run with no breaks this week. YIKES!
Week 4 went pretty well. After our 5 minute warm up walk, we ran for 3 minutes, walked for 90 seconds. Then ran for 5 minutes and walked for 2.5 minutes. THEN, we had to do it all again. Each day, I felt such a huge feeling of accomplishment. We jogged a total of 16 minutes!!! I feel like such a wimp when I read other people's blogs on running, but this was HUGE for me folks.
We bought new shoes last week from Fleet Feet! (By the way, I love that place!) I bought the Glycerin shoes from Brooks. They are so light and I feel like I am wearing slippers. I really love them. Mike got a pair of Asics and he also likes his pair (although he thinks they are ugly). Hey, looks don't matter if they are feeling good!
I also bought a lot of running clothes for this cold/rainy weather. Kristal and Mary had some good advice for me---"Cotton is rotten". Thanks girls! I have to go to class so I will post more on my running purchases later!
My running shoes are Brooks too. :) I'm glad you liked Fleet Feet - you guys are kicking butt on the couch to 5K!
not gonna lie... i've been deterred from buying certain running shoes because i think they're ugly. :) i am seriously so proud of you lauren! you and mike are kicking ass and taking names....
Way to go on week 4 - You'll kick week 5's ass. And think about how amazing you'll feel after you finish that 20 minute run!
And I have the same Brooks you have. They have over 200 miles on them and are still going strong. Keep up the great work!
I went to fleet feet in Chicago last year and got a pair of Brooks shoes called Beast. My feet are SO flat that apparently I have been wearing the worst possible running shoes for 27 year and these puppies are for severe flat feet. LOVE em!
Good luck with the shoes and the running!
YAY LAUREN!!!!!
You are such a rockstar!! FWIW, my running shoes are wayyy uglier than Mike's. Can't wait to get an update on Week 5!
You are doing so great! That 20 minutes is going to fly by and I'm sure that the new kicks will help tremendously! My husband has the same shoes that Mike got and he too thinks they are ugly, but hey, they get it done! Getting out of cotton will help a lot, especially in the shorts/pants/sports bra realm. I still wear a cotton Nike tee a lot of the time as long as I've got everything else on in a moisture wicking fabric. Have you tried smartwool running socks?! They changed my life!
I got those EXACT ones last month! I've been wearing that style for awhile. I was hoping for a cute color change this time around, and when she pulled out the silver and white, I was like, "Oh, man!" But, they are very comfy. Keep it up, Lauren!
Hi~ I just wanted to say that reading your blog is very encouraging for me. I am on Week 2 of C25K and it is inspiring to read about other people's progress!
I would love a cameo on your blog!
Also, congrats on the running! If it is any encouragement, before I did my half ironman last fall I couldn't run for more than two minutes. It is a long, slow process but it does get more bearable! So great you and Mike are doing it together...makes it much more fun!
