Making baby food

It was definitely not something I thought I would have time to do. But honestly...it is super easy! My friend let me borrow her Baeba and off we went.

We started rice and oatmeal cereal around 5 months and waited for the purees until 6 months.
Here is the order of food Ethan tried: avocado, banana, sweet potato, squash, pears, green beans, carrots, apples, peas, and prunes. I pretty much stopped keeping track after that. The pediatrician said to wait 3-4 days before introducing new foods to see if there were any allergies. Once I knew a food was ok for Ethan, I would mix it with another. Sometimes it was just easier to buy the Gerber purees at the store so we did that too. And sometimes I'd mix the Gerber food with something I made.
The Baeba is great because it steams the food first and then blends it. My work has Fruit My Cube deliver to work so anytime there is leftover fruit, I just throw it in the Baeba. He loves when I mix up fruits like pears, bananas, and apples. And just today, he enjoyed spinach, green beans (Gerber mix), and carrots. He LOVES anything mixed with pumpkin. (I bought a can of pumpkin from Trader Joe's and mixed with some apple and some with banana. What a hit! I went back for more and they said they won't carry it again until next October. Boo!)

Beware of the "dirty dozen" when making baby food. I try to purchase all of these items organic (mostly at Trader Joe's). These are: peaches, apples, red bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, pears, grapes, spinach, lettuce, and tomatoes. I have only made a few of these (apples, pears, and spinach).

My bible has been Wholesome Baby Food. I check when foods should be introduced, what they taste good with when mixing, and if I need to purchase organic or not.

Ethan still has his bottles, eats 3 purees a day, and is now eating finger foods too. He gets bits of what we have for dinner and enjoys snacks in his highchair. Watching him eat makes me feel like he is such a big boy. Man, does time fly :)

OLW- Week 4

This week: -0.5
Total:-4.5

Stupid half pound. Would have liked a full pound to get me to -5. But I know why it didn't happen for me this week. I didn't do Zumba this week and I normally do it twice. I got a cold and only got on the treadmill twice. I didn't track any of my calories from Tuesday-Friday. Soooo...next week will be better. I would like to lose a couple pounds by next Friday. OK...since it is out there, I have to do it now! Have a great weekend!

OLW- Week 3

This week: -1
Total: -4

Not too bad. There was a lot of discussion about how women retain a lot of water around "the time of the month" and what-not. Personally, I've never really believed that it would make a huge difference on the scale but the ladies say that it can add 2-3 pounds. I was nervous that I would be a victim Aunt Flo but luckily, I wasn't. 4 pounds in 2 weeks isn't bad (I'm just going to pretend that first week of no loss didn't happen).

Still running/walking 4 times a week and doing Zumba after school 2 nights a week. Not sure if the half marathon in April is doable. Thinking about the relay in April and the half in October is more sensible. Not willing to give up yet.

*Still looking for picture formatting help. *QUESTION- When I blogged about Italy, I was able to copy and pasta images straight from Facebook. They were big and filled the screen. Now, I am not able to copy from Facebook at all. Am I doing something wrong or has something changed? Not sure how to finish blogging my Italy trip now with a similar format and look. Help please :)

38 weeks 5 days

On May 13th, 2011, I went into labor with Ethan. My labor ended up being 18 hours and Ethan was born at 2:02 the next morning. He was born when I was 38 weeks 5 days pregnant. Today, he is 38 weeks and 5 days old. It really is amazing to me that he has been out for as long as he was in.
Most days, I think how time has just flown and my baby boy has grown up way too fast. But other days, I feel like he has been with us forever. I feel so lucky to be his mom. I love him more than I ever knew I was possible of loving. Special day for me and my little buddy.

Travel 2012

The summer of 2010 was exciting. We were able to go to Italy in June (just realized that I never blogged Venice...and have a blogger question at the bottom*), Mexico in July, and San Francisco in August.

2012 looks to be an exciting year for travel again. We will be visiting New York, Cancun, and Alaska within the next 6 months. Ethan will be joining us for 1 trip and will be staying home for the others. Although we are going to miss him like crazy, I'm looking forward to reconnecting with family, friends, and my husband.

OLW- Week 2 (woo hoo!)

Every Friday, a weight loss group at work meets for 30 minutes before school starts. Last week...nothing. This week...I LOST 3 POUNDS! WOO HOO! I can't believe it!

Monday- zumba
Tuesday- running
Wednesday- zumba and running

I worked out a lot less but I tracked all of my calories on the Lose It app on my iPhone. The weekend was TERRIBLE but I made up for it during the week. I am becoming a lot more attentive about what goes into my mouth and that is making a big difference. Also, this week, it was SO much easier to run. I am trying to add more distance and found out that I can do Week 5 from the C25k program (run for 8 minutes, walk for 5 minutes, run for 8 minutes). I'm going to try to run 2 miles this weekend without stopping. Baby steps....but I'll get there!
