Vacation
Mike and I were talking about going to Napa in June.
But now that I am investigating...it seems very expensive. Maybe too much for us right now.
So I starting thinking where we can go a little closer to home. Maybe visit friend in New York.
Or maybe Chicago. I have never been to Chicago in the summer.
I get to go to Destin, Florida in July so we don't need to go to a beach.
Or maybe we will just hit up Napa for a long weekend instead of a week...
Where do you suggest for a budget-friendly vacation?
Take a cruise! You can book a 5 night cruise for $500/person sometimes less. You get to see all kinds of fun places in one trip.
Chicago is always a good time.
Other ideas: Memphis, Denver, Vegas
I say go to Chicago!
i wanted to go to napa with kevin, too, but it is WAY out of our budget as well! i can tell you that NYC is RIDICULOUSLY expensive! i bought 2 slices of pizza this past sunday when i was there and it cost me $9.75, that didn't even include drinks. one night in a hotel there would run you $350/night. chi-town might be a bit cheaper, and you could certainly drive there to cut out the cost of airfare. what if you scoured expedia or travelocity for deals, and pick a fun place you might never think to do to, like say they were running cheap airfare to the grand canyon or something? might be fun :) not to toot my own horn, but philly is pretty amazing ;) there are TONS of places along the east coast, like in virginia and the carolinas, that are popular, too, and might be worth checking out.
If you have never been to Chicago in the summer, some would argue you have never truly been to Chicago!! We live for the summer...since winter last 8 months ;-) And in the summer, you still get a "beach" here. A Midwest beach that's all. If you choose the windy city I can give you lots of recs! Though Napa is at the top of our list as well.
I hear ya! Luckily, we have a trip planned with Matt's family to the beach in July. I really want to go to Napa, but Matt and I ranked our list of vacations and there are several we agree on more. I think we're going to try to take a cruise this fall, and then in the spring check out Charleston, SC (which is actually where I wanted to HM). It's not too expensive, and is gorgeous!
When planning our two year trip we originally wanted to go all out and do a Napa or Boston/NY. But realistically, it's just too much money right now. So we will spend a long weekend in Chicago...which is where you should go, too! I love that city so much.
My vote is 100% for Chicago. Everytime I go, I find a new amazing restaurant or shopping area. Plus, you can hit up Ikea!
Napa IS expensive. Chad and I saved for a year and dropped a fat wad of cash there for sure. But it was worth it!! Not sure New York City would be much better, though...
I'd actually choose to go somewhere out West and see the Grand Canyon.
When we decided to book a "spring break" trip, we looked around and found Vegas surprisingly affordable. We're headed out for 4 nights in less than two weeks; I can't wait!
That being said, I adore Chicago. I grew up in Central IL, and loved heading up for day trips or weekends. There is so much to do!
I vote Chicago!
The shopping is FABULOUS and maybe you can hit up a Cardinals/Cubs game if you plan it ahead!
Hope you have fun, either way!
