Random thoughts after a longggg weekend.

Most of the weekend was filled with funeral things. Sunday, we spent most of the day at the funeral home for the visitation. Then, we stuffed our faces with a delicious meal at Macaroni Grill. Today the funeral was held and then again, we ate a lot of food afterward. I think I may have gained a few pounds this weekend.

Funerals and death are just so sad and they really put life in perspective for you. And although Mike's grandma lived a very full life of 93 years, it still doesn't help the feeling of loss the family feels. It is really strange that today at the funeral, for the first time ever, I thought about getting pregnant earlier than planned. I want to be young parents and our parents to be young grandparents. It really got me thinking. By the time I got to the car, I had already dismissed the idea and Mike agreed. Back to the 3 year plan for us.

Before the funeral schedule kicked in, we enjoyed an evening out on Saturday night. I started the night at Ali's house (not my sister) for Girls Night Out. GNO is a monthly get-together of my Stlwed/blogging friends. I think there have been 6 or 7 of these shindigs but this was only my 2nd one that I have been able to attend. It really is amazing to meet such nice people that are so different but so much the same. After the GNO, I met up with Mike and a bunch of friends at my old roommate's house for a night of Wii Olympics. We were celebrating Nick's 31st and we had a great time! I don't have any pictures but it was a blast. We didn't leave until about 3 AM. Let's just say that I am amazing at bowling and boxing!

I am so so excited for Inauguration Day tomorrow. I will be watching it with my class. Such a wonderful day for the country :) Just can't wait!!!I think my wedding pictures will be posted in the next couple of weeks. My photographer told me they would be ready by the end of January and there are only 2 more weddings ahead of me. Cross your fingers that we get them soon!

Oh, and I am still addicted to my new nail polish, You Don't Know Jacques. (These are not my nails...I typed the name into the Google Search and this pic came up first!)
The kitchen is moving right along. We are struggling finding granite countertops that we can afford. We are going to do tiles but still can't find where to buy them without a contractor.

I think that is it for my random posts tonight. Very very tired. I am looking forward to a happy hour with my friends tomorrow at Ice and Fuel. I have never been there before and it is right up the street! Good night...I am exhausted!!!

I love that nail polish!!

Death does put everything into perspective I saw that when I lost my Dad and so does giving birth. It's amazing how my view on the world changed after I had the boys.

Enjoy Happy Hour, the place you going to sounds like fun!!

The GNO looked like so much fun; I really want to come to one, but I'm a little scared to meet so many people at once!

happy obama day!!! that's so awesome that you'll be watching the inaugural festivities with your class.
and i agree with jennelle - if i lived in stl, i would loooove to attend a GNO, but i would be so intimidated by all the new people all at once! maybe one day....

and again, i'm sorry to hear about mike's grandma. hopefully the funeral felt more like a celebration of her life than lamenting her absence. i mean, there will always be a feeling of loss, but i think it helps to feel grateful for a long, beautiful lifetime of memories.

I agree in hoping the funeral was more a celebration than a sadness. Loss is never easy, but a long-lived life is something to be proud of.

Would you consider a material other than granite for your countertops?
