OLW- Week 1 (and frustrated)
Operation Lose Weight has just begun...and already I'm frustrated. I went from ZERO activity to doing SOMETHING every day. Activity this week was this:
Saturday- run/walk 3 miles
Sunday- run/walk 2 miles
Monday- 1 hour Zumba
Tuesday- run/walk 3 miles
Wednesday- run/walk 2 miles
Thursday- nothing (meetings till 7:00 and then dinner out)
ANDDDDDD....I didn't lose a thing. Not a think. Come on, really? We even went out to Mexican with friends and instead of my usual chicken quesadilla with lots of cheese, sour cream, and guac, I choose grilled fish tacos on corn tortillas. Shouldn't that at least give me -1 pound. Throw me a bone here!
Next Friday's weigh-in better show some results. This week's goal is to continue to workouts but track my food. I'm paying for Weight Watchers online but not taking the time to sit down and figure it all out (stupid, I know). I'm going to make myself accountable my reporting my weekly progress until Mexico. Annoying for you, but hopefully motivating for me.
AND, I forgot how much running hurts. Everything hurts. I'm sure my body is totally confused why I weigh so much and I'm trying to run. Hopefully when pounds come off, it will get easier. I'm thinking of using the Gallaway method a lot of you told me about. It seems like interval training is going to be necessary if I really want to do a half. I can either train to do the Marathon relay and run the whole thing (6 miles) or train for a half where I'm definitely going to need to walk.
Eeek, I am right there with you. I have been exercising every day since Sunday, PLUS counting points on WW online, and I was down two lbs, and then when I weighed myself today...back up a pound?!? I am wondering if I need to be eating more to make up for the fact that I am exercising now...I am not using the activity points in WW. Maybe that could be it for you too? Good luck!
Hang in there, you will start to lose. I have to say tracking the food and calories is the key. I did not lose a single pound until I did this. I too used WW online...Do you have a smart phone to use the app? This made it so easy because I could track it on the go and not have to sit down at my computer to do it.
Just thought I'd WEIGH in:
I started biking to work (4-5 miles each way, hilly,) and it kicked my butt! Got great calves, but never saw the scale change... then I started the Insanity workout DVDs. Still no bueno (though, admittedly, this was during a time when we had guests over more weekends than not and then the holidays). So I feel ya. It SUCKS!
I will say that I changed my diet to be more high protein (esp breakfast- cut all carbs & starches from there!) and I'm back on the routine.... and I STILL haven't seen any pounds drop. What I have seen, though, is inches off the waist and some bangin' triceps. So that's my advice: get a flexible measuring tape/ribbon and note your inches in certain areas (bust, waist, hips, thighs, arms, etc). Let's be honest, the number isn't what annoys us- it's how the pants fit!
KEEP IT UP! The first week is always stupid. And besides, you still look amazing.
Just keep it up. You might not see a difference now but it will add up in the long run. You can do it!
I know that's such a frustrating feeling, but as twisted as it sounds, at least the pain tells you that some work is happening!! I've always struggled with losing weight. At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, have you looked into the Paleo diet at all? My husband and I are doing it and the pounds are falling off. May be worth a look. Even if you don't want to do it long-term, the jump start can be encouraging. PS. I went to a weight class for the first time in six months last week and running yesterday, and I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to walk today. Ha!
Cut yourself some slack, lady! You're doing great! It will probably take some time for your body to adjust to the new routine. And I concur that running is painful. I rested my ankles for almost two weeks and had a great run yesterday, but then I always feel like someone kicked me repeatedly in the bagina bone afterward. Not sure if it has something to do with the c-section or just having weak pelvic muscles and abs:/
I also wanted to add that you should be proud of yourself for finding the time to work out every day because caring for a baby and working cannot make it easy!
I agree with Mary! I'm so impressed that you managed to work out all those days with the baby. You are probably losing, its just not showing on the scale. Hang in there! And let us know how WW goes...I'm thinking that might be a good option for me so I'm curious how it will go for you! Good luck this week!
What an inspiration you are! I am trying to lose weight too... only I don't have a baby to show for my extra pounds! I know it gets frustrating, but next week you will likely see that extra weight come off that you didn't see this week! You can do it!! :)
My recommendation is to keep working at it! I recently tried wholeliving.com 28 day challenge at the beginning of the year. I lost some weight, but more than that I started feeling fantastic. Also, a big thing people forget is staying hydrated! The fat you want to lose doesn't disappear...it has to have a way out of your body :) Don't give up...it will get easier and measure yourself. I've lost inches even when I haven't seen the scale numbers change :)
