Friends
Growing up, I was always amazed by how many friends my mom had. Even today, she regularly gets together with her different "group" of friends. It really shows how life put different people into your life at different times. She always told me that it is very important to keep in contact with friends because you will cherish their company and friendship as you get older. She regularly meets with her:
-high school friends
-college friends
-first apartment after getting married friends
-neighborhood where we grew up friends
-her childrens' high school friends' parents
-current work friends
As I have gotten older, I am also realizing how important my friendships and relationships outside of my marriage and family really are. This weekend, I really noticed that.
On Friday, I hung out with best friends from college and now. We went to Laumeier Sculpture Park for "Music and a Movie Night." Unfortunately the movie didn't work but we enjoyed a beautiful nice and delicious dinner. Mike and I also walked around and got some great pictures of the sculptures. This place is so cool! We will definitely go back soon.
On Saturday, I spent some time with my "internet friends" at the pool. In the beginning, I swore that I would never meet people from the internet in real life. Strange, creepy, why? I thought all of the above. Until I did it. I can honestly say that I have made friends through the internet. Actual friends. And it is so wonderful what an easy friendship it is. No fighting or judging...just talking and relating. Thanks girls for some fun times...hope to do it again soon!
After pooltime with my "internet friends," I got a call by my great high school friend, Stevie. She and her fiance, Matt, were in the neighborhood and stopped by. We ended up having a delicious dinner at Bar Louie together and enjoyed the fabulous weather on the patio. (not my picture below!)
Sunday was spend with college friends as we threw a shower for Allison and her baby-to-be (pictures to come in the next post). I love these girls!I also have a great group of work friends that I went to the Cardinals game with on Wednesday night. I didn't bring my camera but party pics snapped a picture of us before the game started. Wow...I can buy that picture for only $17.99!
I feel lucky to have such great friends!
I can totally relate Lauren. I have an amazing group of friends from high school that I still get together with on a regular basis. Then I also have college friends, old work friends, friends I made online, and I've been reconnecting with all kinds of old friends on Facebook. I sincerely love all my friends and feel so blessed to have so many of them. I was recently reading a girl's blog and she was saying how sad she was cause she didn't have anyone she could call a true friend. That is so sad to me.
Did anyone from the board swim with you?
Lauren - it was awesome spending the day by the pool wasn't it?!? Seriously, it was the most relaxing day I've had in FOREVER!
Glad the shower went well...pics of the decor, please :)
I just finished reading a book I think you would really enjoy. It's called "The Girls from Ames" which chronicles the lifelong friendship of a group of ladies from Iowa. It was wonderful. Girls make great friends!
Great post! I too am amazed at how much I have enjoyed making internet friends.
I was at Laumier on Friday too! Our friend is on staff there and another friend had a piece in the opening. We wondered why everyone was leaving and suspected something was wrong with the movie. Can't wait to see you on the 27th!
