Race for the Cure
Saturday, I had the pleasure of walking in the 10th annual Race for the Cure through downtown St. Louis. We were trying to figure out how many I have gone to...either 8 or 9, I think. I am pretty sure that my mom has gone to all 1o. This year marks her 17th year as a survivor. Those of you that know her or know her age can figure out that she was young when she was diagnosed. 34 years old...with 3 young children. When my mom was diagnosed, 1 in 10 women would get breast cancer. Now that ratio is 1 in 8. So crazy...and scary! However, being surrounded over 60,000 people on Saturday, you can see how many people are connected and affected by breast cancer. It is truly an epidemic that can hopefully be cured. And until then, we will continue to walk, fight, and hope for a cure. Mike and I want to run it someday...but that would mean that I couldn't walk it with my mom and sister...something that I have done for years. We will see...and see if someday I will be able to run 3 miles in a row!!!
Race for the Cure is such an inspirational and powerful event! Congratulations to your mom for being a 17-year survivor! That is awesome. My mom is a survivor as well, and I couldn't be more proud of her. I hope they find a cure soon.
you could totally run and then meet up with your mom and sister to walk the rest. but I didn't want to run it either, and miss out on the walking fun:)
